We can do a lot in a one-night stay, from camping to cubbing, and there are plenty of options in and around Kathmandu valley. When we typically think about having fun or traveling, we think we need a lot of money or we need to go to nice places. But more often than not, it’s more about the people we are around and the expectations we set for fun and travel.
In this blog, we would like to emphasize that one night is more than enough for you to have fun, chill down, and be yourself.
FromEverest is sharing five different types of experiences you can have in one night and one day in and around Kathmandu valley. So let’s get started.
Number 1: Bed and Breakfast Options – Enjoying the City and What It Has to Offer
This option involves enjoying the nightlife around Thamel, hitting the clubs at night, trying out different restaurants around the city, and staying in the heart of the city itself. Whether you choose to do all these while being drunk and high is up to you.
The typical cost for a bed and breakfast area around Kathmandu valley is Rs 2,500 for a standard room for two people with AC and breakfast. But you can find places that cost as low as Rs 1,000 and as high as Rs 25,000. However, it’s up to you.
One tip for finding good value-for-money places with decent service is to go to Google Maps and search for hotels with 4+ ratings and 200+ reviews. These places are usually a good bet, and most of them are safe for couples as well.
That being said, there are pros and cons.
Pros: They are affordable places to stay and are safe, it is near clubs and restaurants so no worries about partying, and the places around are open 24 hours so time is not that important here.
Cons: These areas can be quite crowded and noisy, people may be under the influence, and overall this is not the place if you want to relax and enjoy the night sky.
Number 2: Valley Outskirts Location – View Point Resorts to Relax with a View
These kinds of places are perks of the Kathmandu valley. Since it is a valley, it is surrounded by hills, and with that come many places that have viewpoints. If you go to a decent place, you will be able to see amazing views of the valley both at night and during the day. If the weather is clear, you will also be able to see mountain ranges, and that’s just awesome.
Now, these places are locations like Nagarjun, Budhanilkantha, Lakuri Bhanjyang, Haibung, Shivapuri and Hattiban. These are not so far, not so near locations that have multiple small resorts that offer good rooms and good hospitality. They can be a tad bit expensive, but if you look around, you can definitely find one that fits your budget.
The typical cost for these places is usually around Rs 3,500. Within this price range, you can expect a room with a view and breakfast for 2. But again, you can find more expensive places with better amenities like jacuzzi and pools. But that’s up to you.
With that said, of course, it is not all good, and there are pros and cons. One of the major cons is that the road to reach these places is usually not that good, and the places are not near any shops, so you end up spending more on food in the place itself.
However, these places have amazing views and clean air. You feel like you are in nature and can take a break. You can relax and just be yourself.
Number 3: Around the Kathmandu Valley – Nagarkot, Dhukhel, Markhu, to name a few.
These places are not located within the valley but are nearby and easily accessible by bus, bike, or car. They are popular for their specific features such as being near a lake, offering a breathtaking sunset view, or providing opportunities to experience old traditions, culture, and architecture.
The major go-to places around the Kathmandu Valley include Markhu-Kulekhani-Chitlang, Nagarkot-Dhulikhel, Chisapani, Kakani, and Namo Buddha. Each of these places has its own unique offerings, and there are plenty of hotels to choose from.
You can expect to spend at least Rs 2500 per person in these places, as there are both cheap and expensive accommodations available. The amount you spend depends on you, but here are some pros and cons of these types of locations.
The pros include feeling like you are traveling to a good nature place where you can relax and enjoy. There are also various extra activities to do around these areas, such as hiking and sightseeing.
The cons are that if you are traveling in a group, your expenses might increase as group transportation to these places can be expensive. Additionally, if you want to party, these places might have pricey menus.
Number 4: House & Apartment Rentals – For Group Night Stays & Parties
These are interesting places where you can party all night with a whole house or apartment to yourself and no one will say anything. If you’re in a group, there are places in Hattiban, Khokana, Thamel, and Shivapuii areas where you can book entire houses. These places are designed for fun and are usually hard to find, but you should be able to locate them on Google Maps or on Airbnb.
Typically, these places can accommodate a group of more than 7 people, up to 25 people depending on the property. You can also expect to have your own kitchen to cook your own food.
Usually, these places cost north of Rs 7000, but you can find cheaper or more expensive places as well. Some examples include White House Villa, Little House in a Rice Field, and Shivapuri Retreats.
The pros of these places are that they are usually cheaper when you split the bill with the whole group than renting out rooms in a hotel. They usually don’t care about the noise, and you can bring/cook your own food.
The cons of these places are that there aren’t that many of them and they are usually packed. Plus, you will need a group to book these places, otherwise, it’s not worth it.
Number 5: It’s Adventure Time – More Like Adventure Sports Time
The perk of being around the valley is that there are multiple locations you can reach within a few hours to do adrenaline-packed adventure activities like rafting, bungee jumping, and ziplining. These places are designed for fun with tent stays, barbecues, and riverside beaches.
We are talking about places around the Trisuli river and Sukute beach, and resorts like The Last Resort. These places offer packages for one day or one night and are packed with lots of activities.
It is truly amazing that you can do all this and still return at night to your own home, but we suggest you stay for at least a night. The price of these places varies, but you can expect to spend Rs 3000 or more per person. Excluding the activities.
The pros of these places are that they are usually located around jungles and rivers, so there are no crowds or noises, just natural sounds. Plus, they have good food, usually in a buffet style.
The cons are that they can be packed on weekends and during holiday seasons, and accommodation might not be up to standards because they are usually camp houses and tents.
That wraps up our list of experiences you can have around Kathmandu valley in one night. Of course, there are a lot more things you can do, but let’s keep that for the future blog. Let us know what kind of experience you want to have the most in one night in the comments below. Until then, see you next time, and have an amazing one-night stay.
